Supporting #22 layup4lauren.org
Nov 19

You may have heard in recent weeks the story of Lauren Hill. She is an amazing young basketball player from Mount Saint Joseph University in Cincinnati, Ohio.

We feel led to share this with you as her story is very close to our family. Lauren’s rare brain tumor, DIPG, is the same type of tumor that Grace was diagnosed with in 2009.

Here is the ESPN link for Lauren’s story:

Lauren is not letting DIPG define her. She is living for something greater than herself while creating awareness of DIPG and raising much needed funding for pediatric brain cancer research. There is a current national movement in support of her mission called the layup4lauren challenge. You may have heard of the challenge; turn around 5 times, then shoot a layup with your non-dominant hand www.layup4lauren.org Donations of any size go directly to The Cure Starts Now foundation for pediatric brain cancer research.

This Saturday, November 22 we will be supporting the layup4lauren challenge!!

Thank you Lauren. We are cheering you on!

2014 Race Against the Odds Wrap Up
Jun 29

For the third straight year, we gathered on another beautiful, clear, unseasonably cool
morning in mid May for the Third Annual Race Against the Odds, Charlotte. On behalf
of Soar with Grace and The Cure Starts Now, we would like to thank you from the
bottom of our hearts.

We continue to be amazed and humbled by the ongoing support of sponsors and
volunteers who have participated in each of our three races. In addition, we welcomed
many new volunteers and additional sponsors who gave generously of their time and
money. We are honored and grateful for all those who continue to join us in our effort to
increase funding and awareness of pediatric brain cancer, specifically DIPG. There
were many returning participants who organized teams and exceeded their fundraising
goals set for themselves. Our community, churches and schools continue to offer
unwavering support for our race and our cause. Thanks to you in just three years, we
have raised $135,000 for The Cure Starts Now to support pediatric brain cancer
research.

Each of us continue to support this race and it’s mission for different reasons, but
ultimately the most important reason is Grace McGrath. Your commitment to The Race
Against the Odds is a testament to her legacy which lives on today. Your participation
each year honors Grace and her family and many others who are fighting every day
against DIPG. Please know that your contributions are deeply appreciated by Soar with
Grace, and by other families of DIPG warriors.

We are certainly grateful for all that has been accomplished over the past three years
and look forward to the Fourth Annual Race Against the Odds, Charlotte on Saturday,
May 16, 2015. We ask that you will consider joining us again next year in our quest to
“Beat the Odds” against pediatric brain cancer.

Running to beat the odds,
Jennifer Lassiter
Event Director

Thank you

We would like to thank everyone involved for their generous support of the third annual Race Against the Odds North Carolina to benefit The Cure Starts Now Foundation! We had another successful turn out and are still finalizing numbers, so stay tuned!

If you have a moment, take a second to watch and share the powerful video below. It really hones in on the reason why YOUR donations and participation in our event are SO IMPORTANT to the mission of The Cure Starts Now – to find the “homerun cure”.

2014 Race Against the Odds
Mar 11

Registration is now open for our third annual Race Against the Odds 5k run/walk. Over the past two years the Race Against the Odds/North Carolina has raised nearly $100,000 for pediatric brain cancer research. We could not have done this without your support-thank you!

This race is in memory of Grace, who lost her courageous battle to pediatric brain cancer just 9 months after diagnosis. One of the things Grace loved to do was run…please join us on Saturday, May 17, 2014 as we Soar with Grace to raise awareness and funding for pediatric brain cancer research. All proceeds benefit The Cure Starts Now. Be sure to bring the entire family for this fun and inspiring race.

2013 Race Against the Odds a Huge Success!
Sep 25

On Saturday, June 1, 2013, some 50 volunteers arrived before dawn to welcome over 700 participants to the Second Annual Race Against the Odds, Charlotte. On behalf of Soar with Grace and The Cure Starts Now, we would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

We were truly amazed and humbled to watch so many familiar faces pass us the morning of the race, and to have witnessed so many give so much of themselves over the past several months. We were honored by those sponsors who returned for our Second Annual Race and grateful for the many new sponsors who joined us for the first time. Again, this year we received unwavering support from our schools, churches, and community. Many, many thanks to those participants who created fundraising teams, and not only met but surpassed your goals. In doing so, nearly $45,000 was raised for The Cure Starts Now to support pediatric brain cancer research.

In addition, we were honored to have Dr. Oren Becher and his family from Duke University. Dr. Becher is a leader in research of novel treatments of brainstem gliomas. He offered an update on the reality of limited funding for pediatric brain cancer, along with new treatment options which are being studied.

Each of us supported this race and its mission for many different reasons, but ultimately the most important reason is Grace McGrath – her courage, her legacy and her memory. Grace was an amazing little girl who captured all of our hearts, and by supporting this race you have honored her and so many others who are fighting every day against DIPG. Please know that your many contributions are deeply appreciated.

We are certainly grateful for all that was accomplished this year and look forward to the Third Annual Race Against the Odds, Charlotte on Saturday, May 17, 2014. We ask that you will consider joining us again next year in our quest to “Beat the Odds” against pediatric brain cancer.

Gratefully,
Jennifer Lassiter
